The Section of Gynecology and Minimally Invasive Surgery, under the leadership of Dr. Shari Snow, provides expert care to women with complex gynecologic conditions. Our physicians treat a wide spectrum of gynecologic conditions including fibroids, endometriosis, menopause, vulvar disorders, osteoporosis, hereditary cancer risk and abnormal uterine bleeding.
Our Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgeons approach fibroid and endometriosis surgery utilizing the latest technologies. Innovative approaches of Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopy, including the DaVinci Robotic System, Acessa Radiofrequency Ablation, and the Hysteroscopic Resectoscope, offer patients alternatives to traditional surgery with less pain, scarring and time to recovery. Our surgical team has decades of experience in pioneering these new technologies. Our gynecologists also incorporate innovative non-surgical treatment modalities to optimally design treatment regimens for each individual patient.
Experts in our field, Dr. Laura Douglass and Dr. Sandra Laveaux have completed Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Fellowship training in complex gynecologic surgeries. Dr. Douglass serves as an advisor on treatment breakthroughs for endometriosis including medical and surgical innovations. Dr. Laveaux investigates factors that predict growth of fibroids, through a research grant from the Women’s Board of the University of Chicago, leading to individual patient treatment plans
Dr. Shari Snow is a Master Robotic Surgeon and serves as the Associate Director of our Minimally Invasive Gynecology Surgery Fellowship. She is also Director of our Gynecologic Consult Service and is the Quality Chief for our Department. Dr. Snow works to expand testing for and treatment of hereditary cancer syndromes.
Our Menopause Center, led by Dr. Monica Christmas, helps guide patients through the menopausal transition. Dr. Christmas also conducts groundbreaking research on socioeconomic and racial disparities in menopausal symptoms and treatment.
